Holy Hijama Healing

What is Holy Hijama Healing?

Holy Hijama is a healing method that at first glance is quite similar to the wet cupping therapy practiced in Chinese medicine. A key difference is that Holy Hijama healing also relies on prayers and invocation to the Divine, as well as the giving of charity to open to healing that is both spiritual and physical. This is an ancient practice in Sufism that aims for wholistic well-being, connecting physical cleansing with spiritual purification, boosting focus, increasing energy, and fostering a closer connection with the Divine, by removing stagnant “bad” blood, clearing blockages and reviving ancient healing wisdom.

What are the Benefits of Holy Hijama Healing?

Spiritually many people report feeling lighter, freer, more connection to the Divine, and overall improved sense of well-being. Physically, many people report increased vitality, a decrease in pain, improved circulation, lessening of allergy and other respiratory symptoms and many other benefits. Some people report a decrease in neuropathy symptoms. Scientific studies have confirmed many of these benefits, including that al-Hijamah is known to detoxify the blood, improve circulation, reduce pain, etc. [See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK538253/]. (Wet cupping and al-Hijama involve minor bloodletting through surface scarification carried out in a very specific method. The “scratches” are quite small.)

What is involved in a Holy Hijama session?

You will fill out a health history, share your specific needs, and sign a consent form so your practitioner will be aware of any concerns or contraindications.  Prayer and invocation will be included at various points in the healing. In a typical session, cups are placed on the upper back and suction is applied for a few minutes, drawing blood and fluids to the area. The cups are briefly removed and the areas to be cupped are cleaned with Povidone-iodine solution (or Isopropyl alcohol if allergic) and allowed to dry before three surface scratches (about 1/4″) are made in each cup site with a sterile scalpel. The cups are then reapplied for several minutes to allow the sites to bleed. When the cups and blood are removed, ointment and bandages are applied.
